Precautions after rhinoplasty

The nose is an organ that continues to evolve over the years particularly during puberty. For this reason, nose surgery should only be considered on a fully-grown adult patient and it can meet three different needs.

Types of rhinoplasties

Functional rhinoplasty

The main objective is to correct a permeability problem in the upper airways which impedes the patient’s breathing.

Aesthetic rhinoplasty

The objective is to reshape the nose to give it a more harmonious and balanced contours both from the front and from the side. Successful rhinoplasty requires careful analysis of the patient’s features to ensure a natural result that does not detract from the face’s identity. This is particularly true of ethnic rhinoplasty.

Reconstructive rhinoplasty

This rhinoplasty aims to partially or totally reconstruct a nose that has been destroyed, usually after a serious accident or aggressive radiotherapy.

What precautions should be taken after rhinoplasty ?

There are a number of recommendations to follow to optimize the result of a nose job surgery :

Precautions after rhinoplasty : the first week

Immediately after a nose surgery, patients should avoid strenuous physical activities and exposure to heat which increase the risk of bruising or edema. The same applies to taking aspirin or anti-coagulants. You must remain vigilant.

The surgeon monitors the healing process, even if there are no sutures to remove. During this phase, the patient must sleep with his or her head up to reduce any risk of stasis. Blocked noses and bleeding are frequent, so nasal cavities must be regularly cleaned with sterile saline solution.

Precautions after rhinoplasty : the first month

In the weeks that follow, the patient returns to a normal social life.

Certain activities such as contact sports or swimming are forbidden for at least a month, your surgeon will indicate you the exact period. Smoking and wearing glasses are also not recommended.

Good skin hydration is recommended to deeply nourish the tissues. You then need to be patient with clear results between 3 and 6 months, but the definitive results will be visible after 12 months, revealing a new, harmonious nose that enhances features and profile.
